Morphine is Schedule II under the Controlled Substances Act. Prescriptions are tightly regulated. In many states, leftover opioids should be taken to a take-back location rather than flushed or thrown in the trash.

- Traveling with it: keep it in the original labeled container
- Workplace drug tests will typically detect therapeutic morphine
