Emergency
Overdose
Slow breathing, blue lips, pinpoint pupils, cannot be woken. Call 911. Give naloxone. Stay until help arrives.
Signs
- Slow, shallow, or stopped breathing
- Blue or purple lips or fingernails
- Pinpoint pupils
- Limp body; cannot be woken or cannot speak
- Gurgling or deep snoring sounds
- Cold, clammy, pale skin
- Vomiting
What to do
- Call 911 immediately
- Give naloxone (Narcan and similar) if you have it — nasal spray or injection
- If they are not breathing, start rescue breathing / CPR as trained
- Roll them onto their side if they are breathing, to protect the airway
- Stay until emergency services arrive — naloxone can wear off before the morphine does, so a second dose may be needed
